Using Facebook to chase down after-hour interviews

Reporter Daniel Victor of The Patriot-News details how he used Facebook to reach out to former classmates of Andrew Stack, the man who crashed his plane into the IRS building in Texas. While he doesn't always get results searching Facebook groups and pages, he landed several interviews for this story.

It's good to see how some virtual footwork on Facebook can yield new information. Victor has three items to keep in mind, including being aware of discussions happening in your area and knowing how to mine Facebook.

"... any reporter familiar with using Facebook for reporting knows there's
nothing extraordinary about what I did. If you're in a hurry, you have
to know how to use these tools before they're quickly needed."
